Which class fits?
Seals
Baby Seals — Parent & Tot · 2–6

For beginners who aren't ready to go solo — with a parent on the ice (in skates!), kids learn to balance, march and stand up.

P 1
Penguins · 4–6

Little or no experience, comfortable without a parent. A 3:1 ratio and skating aids get kids marching and standing on their own.

P 2
Polar Bears · 4–6

For kids who can march the width of the ice unassisted — moving into pushing, gliding, backwards marching and stopping.

P 3
Huskies · 5–7

The bridge out of preschool skating — consolidating push-and-glide skills before the Learn to Skate stream.

Intro
Intro to Learn to Skate · 8–12

A 30-minute, 3:1 entry point for older kids starting fresh — build the basics fast in a small group.

LTS 1
Learn to Skate 1 · 7–12

Beginners: skate forward with good balance and a push-and-glide motion.

LTS 2
Learn to Skate 2 · 6–12

Comfortable forwards — learn to stop, skate backwards and glide on one foot.

LTS 3/4
Learn to Skate 3 & 4 · 6–12

Backwards and stops are solid — crossovers, turns, then hockey stops and jumps.

Ford Performance Centre — 400 Kipling Ave

Fall term starts Sunday Sept 27, Monday Sept 28 and Thursday Oct 1 — 12 weeks on Mon/Thurs, 11 on Sundays (no classes Sunday Oct 18). Players are streamed with participants of equal calibre. Fees are per term, + HST.

The Hockey 101 pathway
Step 1
Kinderhockey · 4–6

Toronto's premier hockey initiation program — agility, balance and coordination, ending each class with a mini game. Skaters must already stride and glide (this is not a learn-to-skate program).

Step 2
Junior Intro to Power Skating & Hockey Skills · 6–8

For young beginner players and Kinderhockey graduates — strong skating fundamentals plus puck handling.

Step 3
Intro to Power & Hockey Skills · 8–11

Skating and puck skills for players building toward house league.

Step 4
Power Skating & Hockey Skills · 9–13

House-league and select players — edgework, skating technique, puck handling and shooting drills. Want more reps? Small Group Hockey Skills runs Thursdays at a 5:1 ratio.

In spring, the 101 Hockey League adds team play — weekly development plus a game, jersey and team awards included. Full CSA-approved equipment is required in all hockey programs, head to toe: helmet & mask, neck guard, shoulder, elbow and shin pads, gloves, pants, jock/jill and stick (cut no higher than the chin with skates on).

Why parents stick with 101

Coaching that outlasts the summer

3:1

Small by design

Swim groups cap at three kids per instructor, and on the ice and the fairway, kids are grouped by age and skill — so nobody gets lost in a crowd, and nobody gets bored.

30+ yrs

The same faces, decades in

101 Sports has been teaching West Toronto kids since the 1990s. Many of today's coaches started here as campers and came up through our Coach-in-Training program.
